Three Most Important Tips for Your Quince Waltz and Surprise Dance

Tags

When it comes to your waltz and surprise dance and anything else that requires all eyes on you, there are THREE very important things I teach all of my participants.

1. SMILE!!! There is nothing that looks worse than someone who is dancing and trying to get the crowd going and entertained and not even cracking a smile. The Quinceanera, the Chambelan de Honor, and EVERYONE in the court should be smiling! A smile goes a loooooong way and is what helps make your dances look that much better!

2. Do NOT Look Down!!! There should be no reason why you or anyone else in your court should be looking at the floor while dancing. Unless the routine calls for it, you should always be looking up and at the crowd with your Colgate smile! Looking down or at the floor while dancing tells the crowd that you are not confident in yourself nor in the routine you are presenting to them. If you are shy or scared to look at people while you’re dancing, pick a spot or two on the walls around you and focus on that while you dance. But please please PLEASE don’t look down when you dance.

3. Have Fun! This one should be self explanatory, BUT you would be surprised at how many quinceaneras I have been to where the whole Court looks so bored and not confident in what they are doing. I can guarantee you that if the Court looks bored, the audience will get bored. Get up, have some fun with it!

Remember: Look up, smile, and have as much fun as you can! This night will only happen once, so make it count. You are creating memories that will last a life time. These routines will be recorded for you and your family to watch over and over and over again, make it something worth watching on repeat! 😉

Quinceañera Surprise Dances

Tags

While we all know that the traditional waltz is definitely an important part of the Quinceañera tradition, there’s another dance that is becoming more and more popular. The surprise dance. Your Quinceañera is a party so why not have some fun? The surprise dance is a Quinceañera’s chance to showcase part of her personality and to give the guests some entertainment as well. When choosing what songs and types of dances you want for your surprise dance, keep in mind the following:
1. The music has to mix well together. There’s nothing more random than going from a hip hop song to a Banda song then to a slow song then to a reggaeton song. Try to limit the music genre and stick to something that will get the guests hyped up.
2. You have family in the audience. Do you really want to be “twerking” and “dropping it low” with your grandparents and aunts and uncles watching???
3. Dress appropriately. Same as above. No need to dress beyond your age. You’re 15. 🙂
4. Talk to your dance teacher. Usually they’ve had plenty of experience with these kinda of routines and can give you some really good advice. Trust them, you hired them for a reason, right?
